Song 16: Oxford Collapse, “Please Visit Your National Parks” (2006)

I think I love this song because it’s just good ol’ indie rock, with swirling, slightly off-key guitars and a dude yelling the vocals. That’s not to underplay its values: there’s a good melody, and the band knows what it’s doing. But it’s pretty basic, and I love that there are bands like this around (though not this band; Oxford Collapse sadly broke up in 2009). It reminds me of dirty rock clubs and cheap beer, of nights out with friends and cars that don’t always start. It sounds like youth and early adulthood, like chaos barely contained.

The Oxford Collapse put out four full-length albums, including the Noid-assisted Remember The Night Parties and their swansong Bits. I highly recommend both.
